Bloom House System
Implemented by Dr. Jacobs, Principal at Bloom Elementary, the House System info is below:
Purpose
The main purposes of Bloom’s House System are to build on our family-like culture, to expand our relationship building, and fun and engagement. There are studies that show schools with house systems have increased school spirit, sense of belonging, and students and staff are simply more happy.
House Meetings
A house meeting is when just the members of your house meet to build community, connect, and celebrate. House meetings are planned and scheduled by teachers and student reps who call together all house members for a meeting. House meetings are held throughout the year, as determined by each house’s leadership.
Rallys
A house rally is when the entire school gathers to celebrate, build community, etc. During house rallies, students and staff sit with their house in their house colors and regalia. House leaders determine when rallies are held and how often.
House Points
Students and staff can earn House Points for demonstrating positive behavior, academic growth and/or achievement, showing good character, competing in challenges, etc. Points will be collected and displayed on leaderboards throughout the school. Points cannot be taken away.
House Challenges
Houses can earn points for school-wide challenges. Challenges will be both competitive as well as collaborative. Challenges will be clearly communicated with all house members. Any member can recommend a challenge to the teachers and/or student reps.
House Round Table
Each house will select one staff rep and two student reps to serve on the Principal’s Round Table. The Round Table will serve as leadership for the entire school as it relates to the house system, especially challenges, celebrations, and house system improvement. The Round Table will be Bloom’s version of a student council. Each house’s two student reps must be in 5th grade; selection of student reps will be determined by the staff within each house. Reps will be selected and reported to the principal by Labor Day.
